Mary Kom - The movie

Well, I am back after a long time. Looks like the writer's block is gone. At least for now.
Let me see how much consistent I get in updating this blog. Sometimes, it feels like copying and pasting all the blog posts from my ex-office's blog space. Then again, some people would have already read it. Now, what am I supposed to type about? No clue.

Let's pick up a super hot topic that is burning the meitei or manipuri internet world. The issue is why is Priyanka Chopra acting as Mary Kom when someone with a similar look from the North East could have been given the role?

Now, this one looks like it has not gone down well with many people, especially the people in Manipur. The very same place where Hindi movie has not been released for more than a decade. Remember that.

Did anyone scream that a person from Punjab should have played the role of Milkha Singh in "bhag milkha bhag"? Nobody did and nobody cares. It is the director's perspective. Period. Done. Get it?

So, if the director and producers of "Mary Kom" wants to cast anyone else, then what the hell is your problem? Ben Kingleys played the Mahatma.

Why is it that we are so particular about what "they" do with us while we just do not care about what "we" do to "them"? Shut your mouth and watch the movie just like anyone else would. You can become a critic after you watch the movie. You have absolutely no rights of whatsoever kind in whom the director chooses to cast in his/her movie. Oh by the way, has any director/producer in Manipur ever thought about a movie about Mary Kom, if yes, then where is it? Is the role played by someone from Mary Kom's tribe or by someone else?

The debate is irrelevant. This is business and one of the biggest of them all. If a movie does not click then a lot of money is lost. A lot is earned if it does click. It is all about the star power in this country whether you like it or not. It is about "haves" and the "have nots".

It is a joke to even compare any actor from the North East with that of the mainstream Hindi Cinema. There is absolutely no comparison. You can make ten Manipuri movies in the budget of a Hindi movie song. Where are you and where are they? The argument may be that Priyanka Chopra does not look like someone from the North East. Then again, if an actor or actress from the North East is trying to make a name in the Hindi film industry, then he may never get any role in any film just because he/she does not look "Indian". Only Danny Dengzopa made the difference. That guy is talented, in fact super talented. Can a Meitei speak Hindi like him? I don't think so.

In the land where everyone thinks that he/she is better than anyone else in this planet, this article will also fall flat and will be criticised for my lack of supporting the region's cause and fight and differences and sufferings and what not. The list is on. We crib about how we are treated elsewhere in the country but we don't think about how we treat everyone else. We don't like being called with the "C" word while we happily use the "M" word. We live in a society which does not have "appreciation" as one of it's values. We always underestimate, disrespect, and dishonor everything. Someone secures a high rank in any exam, the answer is "he/she must have copied". We are very good at character judgement. We judge anything and everything, as if it is our birth right to judge people. Someone gets successful in life, the immediate answer is "That idiot was rotting years ago, how did he get so successful?". Every society has it's own pros and cons. Ours is the one where sub-sub-sub-sub society exist, each saying that they are better than the rest.

Grow up, it is not the ONLY world that you have. Open your eyes and try and see things from a different perspective. We are not the only ones in this planet. Learn to adjust and co-exist instead of havin "kill them all and let's live alone" syndrome. Let us stop our love for violence. We just love violence. We solve everything through violent means. Someone says something which was not nice, we beat him up. Someone thinks that someone is acting smart, we beat him up. Someone thinks that someone disrespected him, we beat him up. Someone is "suspected" of being involved in a murder, we burn down his house. These are simple examples, there are way too many to be quoted. On top of that we cry on the present law and order situation.

We do not care about anything else other than the immediate family that we have. All we care is the best for MY family. All we want is to do something that no other meitei has done. All we care is to be the so called "only one". All we want is to send our sons or daughters to a place where there are no meiteis for further studies. Outside the state, when we come out, we don't talk to each other. We act as if we are from a different country altogether.

The list goes on and on.
For now, wait for September 5th, watch the movie, as you would in a multiplex, update your FB status while doing that, express your thoughts and move on.
Until then, shut up.
